M.PHARM (Pharm. Chemistry)
Course Duration: 2 yearsM.pharm holders are normally absorbed in research work, to develop new useful drugs, in laboratories and in production work in the pharmaceutical industry and analyzing them for purity and strength. Masters candidates may also take up teaching as a profession as lectures in pharmacy colleges and universities.
Master in Pharmacy (Pharmaceutical Chemistry) is a post graduate degree course structured and designed to prepare the students for a career in academia as well as the pharmaceutical industry. Pharmaceutical Chemistry is a stimulating discipline with a traditional focus on organic synthetic chemistry with the broad goals of drug discovery which links many scientific disciplines and allows for collaboration with researchers from other disciplines like biologists, toxicologists, pharmacologists, theoretical chemists, microbiologists, and bio-pharmacists in developing new drugs. The program seeks to prepare postgraduate students to function independently, competently and technically in a variety of settings including academic and research career tracks.
The M.Pharm graduates can join a public sector firm in the Junior Executive post available in various departments like production department and quality control department. They can get into the post of Deputy Manager and then Manager after getting much experience. Those who are working as Junior Pharmacist can get into the post of Senior Pharmacist if their knowledge and experience suits the senior post. The aspirants who have chosen the teaching profession can join any government institution as a lecturer. The next higher designation available for the lecturer is an Assistant professor. To get into this higher post, one should have certain years of experience as a lecturer. Assistant Professor can get into the post of Senior Professor after getting adequate experience.
